"The Power of Submission"

What does the Bible say about Meekness?

Psalm 37:8-11

Refrain from anger and turn from wrath;
    do not fret—it leads only to evil.
For those who are evil will be destroyed,
    but those who hope in the Lord will inherit the land.

10 A little while, and the wicked will be no more;
    though you look for them, they will not be found.
11 But the meek will inherit the land
    and enjoy peace and prosperity.

Jesus Christ is the model of meekness. He had all power yet demonstrated that the path into the Kingdom of God the King is the path of meekness, gentleness, and humility. Meekness acknowledges injustice in the world . . . but exercise Godly wisdom in response. Meekness does not say “this is OK”. Meekness does not say “How dare you”.

We know who we are - image bearers whose dignity cannot be taken away. Our dignity does not have to be protected because we cannot lose it. Our dignity does not have to be asserted because it exists inherently, given to us by the one sovereign God. We have nothing to prove. Our value is not based on our work or on the opinions of others and will not change by my accomplishments or failures. The only status that matters is my standing before God, and that is secure.
